Mehmet is a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, holding a Doctorate in Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies from the University of Essex (2023). His academic journey began with a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology from Boğaziçi University in 2012, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Psychology with High Distinction from Bilgi University in 2016. Since then, he has provided specialist therapy services while working as a consultant in various hospitals, NGOs, and international organizations such as the United Nations.
Currently, Mehmet serves as an Academic Staff Member and EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) Leader at the University of Essex's Clinical Psychology Doctorate Programme. He also holds the position of Research Consultant at both the University of Sussex and Metanoia Institute, continuing his research and clinical contributions.
His expertise spans a range of areas, including migration and migration-related issues, trauma, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), depression, and anxiety. Mehmet’s therapeutic approach primarily integrates psychodynamic and psychoanalytic methods, focusing on understanding the underlying causes of challenges faced by individuals. Through this awareness, Mehmet works collaboratively with clients to find tailored solutions that enhance their lives. Additionally, he adopts an eclectic approach, combining various therapeutic techniques to meet the unique needs of each individual.
