It is a disorder in which neurobiological factors are at the forefront in its development. It is thought to result from disruption in the functions of norepinephrine and dopamine neurotransmitters in the prefrontal cortex. Especially in the primary school period, it manifests itself as inability to pay attention to lessons, excessive mobility, course failure, and deterioration in family and friend relationships.
Untreated attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder can lead to additional mental disorders such as conduct disorders, depression, alcohol and substance use disorders in the future. The disorder can be effectively treated with drugs containing the active ingredients methylphenidate and atomoxetine.
